Fort York under Fire

Fort York has been defending Toronto for over 200 years and its integrity is still being threatened. Our fort has been through a lot: it has repelled attacking Americans during the War of 1812, had its shoreline filled in, been strangled by railway lines and was almost moved to a new location for the Gardiner Expressway. Just when we might think it could let down its guard, the TTC’s “preferred route” for its new “Waterfront West” LRT line runs through the southern portion of the Fort York Historic Site. Transit must come to this growing neighbourhood, but we can’t repeat past mistakes by disrespecting our most sacred of civic sites.
