YOU SAY PARTY! WE SAY DIE! PLAY BURROUGHES BUILDING (639 QUEEN W) AUG 27.

For Victoria, BC’s You Say Party! We Say Die!, a track-by-track remix of their outstanding sophomore album Lose All Time may seem like a convenient placeholder while they finish off album No. 3. Although Remik’s Cube doesn’t offer much in the way of improvements, it certainly steers clear of any tragic revisions. After the irritating repetition of opener “Five Year Plan” (remixed by Vitaminsforyou), the album picks up with the lithe and insidious “DMG, AKR!” pared down to a skilful breakbeat and Becky Ninkovic’s catchy chorus. In contrast to Camp America’s synth-leaden take on “Teenage Hit Wonder” or the chaotic sonic explosions of “Monster,” Stop Die Resuscitate add an avant-noise intro to “Quiet World” before proceeding to thoroughly deconstruct the tune. But it’s Bocce’s early-’80s soul ballad reworking of “Poison” that provides the oddball highlight. Still, YSP!WSD! are perfectly capable of destroying a dancefloor when they’re just being themselves — no remix necessary.
